EVERY CHILD DESERVES A GREAT START
Eighty percent (80%) of brain development occurs by the age of 3. But, in Hamilton County, roughly 1,000 out of the 4,000 (1 in 4) babies born every year are at risk of not being ready for their first day of school.
Because of the hard work of community partners, like Chattanooga 2.0, we know the importance of investing in children at an early age. Last April, during his State of the City address, Mayor Berke made a commitment that the City of Chattanooga would be a crucial partner in early learning through several initiatives, including the expansion of Baby University, establishing the City’s first Office of Early Learning, adding more slots to our Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms, and partnering with United Way to provide Early Learning Scholarships to local families.
