About Mildred

What was your loved one's occupation?
"Head Cook at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Smithfield, NC"

What did your loved one enjoy doing?
"COOKING was her passion. Momma always enjoyed attending church and worship. She loved her family and was very devoted and proud of each one of us. She always enjoyed every visit and call. Holidays were special and a chance for her to shower us with delicious meals that cannot be duplicated. In addition to everything else Momma took tremendous pride in keeping an immaculate house. She always valued the fact that she was able to be a homeowner after Dad's untimely death which left her a widow at a young age to raise four children as a single parent."

Special Memories:
"Supermom with a unique flair for fashion and a superb cook! Mom was relocated to Chattanooga April, 2018 due to her dementia. As her only daughter we enjoyed so many wonderful days during the time together. It was my highest honor and joy to be able to serve as a caregiver. I published a book to memorialize our time during our journey while she struggled with the disease (Letters to Momma Jean: Reflections on Dementia, Love and Caring). There are no words to describe the loss of her presence."

"Momma always enjoyed the company of everyone she would meet. Her joyful and upbeat attitude was an inspiration to many. Never once did she complain during the many challenges presented throughout her life. While attending to her as a caregiver and daughter I learned valuable lessons that I will cherish forever."
