SPROUTS - Streets as Places: Re-imagining the Outdoors

ROLLING ON

Through the SPROUTS - Rolling Through Program, CDOT seeks to support socially distanced activities that community groups, neighborhood associations, and other organizations safely host using private and public spaces.

This pilot program looks at how we can share our streets for social distancing to help our community find safe, healthy ways to get outside, recreate, access essential services, and bring joy to our communities.

Through SPROUTS, community members can apply to host small, mobile activities in the public realm. These activities can range from organized art walks and StoryWalks to rolling artistic experiences.

This is a pilot program and each application will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

All activities need to follow advice from public health experts: masks must be worn at all times; proper hand hygiene must be maintained; surfaces and objects must be kept clean; and all participants must find ways to limit contact between people.

The State of Tennessee recommends strict adherence to CDC and FDA guidelines, as well as the Universal Guidelines for All Businesses.

Location Considerations

Each location will have unique conditions that will be assessed carefully by the CDOT staff to work with the applicant to develop the most use of the public street.
