This policy series will focus on topics around bias-motivated incidents, anti-hate crime policies, community programs, and local government outreach. The Council Against Hate’s Public Policy and Research & Data action teams will present one nationally recognized expert each month to help us create a safer and more welcoming city together.

Our second Pivot Point speaker is Cynthia Deitle, the Director of Civil Rights Reform overseeing programmatic hate crimes work at the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Prior to joining the Matthew Shepard Foundation in 2017, Cynthia was a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for over 22 years specializing in the fields of civil rights, community outreach, and victims’ assistance.

Ms. Deitle will join our community conversation on hate crimes reporting, share experiences from the Civil Rights Unit at the FBI, and discuss her current work at the Matthew Shepard Foundation to help communities like ours.

Ms. Deitle will present, then sit down for a fireside chat with Chattanooga Assistant Police Chief of Department and Community Development, Danna Vaughn. After, Ms. Deitle will take questions from the audience.
